Learn to play the guitar – You’re never too young…

If you want to learn to play the guitar and needed assurance and inspiration as to when you are old enough to start guitar lessons, these five wonderful children from North Korea are living proof that you can learn to play the guitar even while the guitar itself is bigger than you are. The headline to the video is unfortunate and attention grabbing in the wrong way. If you are a music lover, and especially one who appreciates guitar music, then you will find this video truly inspirational. Of course there is the likelihood these children were exceptionally well drilled with the routine, after all it was for North Korean TV so it would have to be note-perfect. This is probably quite a good time to say that at Richard Hillyer Music that isn’t quite the philosophy we adopt. Yes, we do all we can to encourage our students to practice, but we also want to ensure that enjoyment is the driving factor, not a sense of having to practice or else…..

Learn to play the Guitar: The Younger the Better…

I have a personal love of the guitar and part of the reason I teach is because I want to share that passion. Music can play an incredibly important part in your life, both as the player of an instrument, but also from the point of your own personal development. To me learning to play the guitar was just like an extension of learning to talk and then write. While some wordsmiths move on to become authors, I chose to become a music professional, but others I play with went on to other professions and play purely for pleasure and as a hobby.

What I do know from providing guitar lessons in Bristol is that the younger pupils start learning the guitar, the more natural they find it to play and learn to play. When we are young much of our life is about learning through experience as opposed to repetition for the sake of repetition. As a result I find children have a different type of enthusiasm for playing the guitar and I will do all I can to encourage that. So to find out more about myself and if you are looking to learn to play the guitar in Bristol, then please do give me a call.
